Applications for up to £1.5m (full
economic cost) are invited under this highlight notice in AHRC’s
standard and early career research grants routes (the limit for early
career applications remains at £250,000).
The aim of their highlight notice is to
encourage innovative applications which further explore the
contributions that design can make to the Connected Communities Programme. It seeks to encourage the development of research proposals
that connect communities, designers and arts and humanities researchers
in the co-design and co-production of research. It also forms a part of
AHRC's support for the development of design research as one of three
strategic national capability areas identified in AHRC's Delivery Plan (2011-2015).
As well as meeting all the normal
requirements for research excellence for standard / early career
research grants, in order to be considered under the highlight notice
applications will need to:
- be inter- or cross- disciplinary combining perspectives, approaches and expertise from design and from arts and humanities subject areas. Proposals which engage, in addition, with other disciplines and perspectives beyond the arts and humanities will also be welcomed, provided that they have strong contributions from both design and the arts and humanities at their core;
- engage with communities through all stages of the research process. Proposals involving innovative or creative approaches to community engagement are strongly encouraged.
- involve strong collaborative partnerships with organisations outside the HEI sector and include a highly developed or innovative approach to creating pathways for impact for the research;
- demonstrate a strong fit to the aims and objectives of the Connected Communities Programme, including giving consideration to how the research could build upon, complement and/or contribute to, other research under the Programme.
