RRUKA
(Rail Research UK Association) have two
funding opportunities available with urgent deadlines: an EPSRC CASE
studentship and a post-doctoral research project. The application deadline is 26 August.
These
two projects will support an important project in the rail industry, which aims
to contribute towards the industry ‘4C’ objectives (Cost, Capacity, Carbon and
Customer) through developing the tool or tools to optimise, through time and
position management, regulation and related aspects of the railway leading to
improved services.
We
are looking for the following skills:
·
optimisation
expertise,
·
string
analytical skills, and
·
understanding
of railway timetabling and traffic management.
More
information on these opportunities along with the application procedure and
rules, can be found on the RRUKA website here: http://www.rruka.org.uk/new-funding-epsrc-icase-studentship-post-doctoral-research-project/
Please
could you highlight this opportunity to the people in your university who may
be interested in the opportunity. They do not have to have any background in
railway research – we are particularly keen on drawing on transferrable
knowledge developed in other domains. We imagine that the skills may be found
in departments such as computing, mathematics, but are open to the idea that
optimisation techniques in unrelated fields could potentially be applied to the
railway, which is very complex.
We
look forward to receiving applications from your university
Yours
faithfully,
Nailah
