ESRC Opens Secondary Data Initiative

One arm of ESRC's implementation of its Delivery Plan is now available: the Secondary Data Initiative. The ESRC had scrapped its Small Grants scheme, with the exception of this Initiative. Backed by £10.8 million funding, it will offer grants of up to £200k to exploit major data resources that the ESRC and other agencies had already created.

The first phase will fund around 20 small scale projects of up to £200,000 (at full economic cost) each and with a maximum duration of 18 months. This call is not thematically driven and proposals are welcome in any area which can generate policy and practitioner impact. However, there are significant opportunities to address key issues in our strategic priorities.

These include cohort studies, the British Household Panel Survey, Understanding Society, census datasets, and the European Social Survey.

The closing date for proposals is 16.00 on 19 April 2012, with the expectation that most projects will commence in October 2012.
