The Royal Society of Edinburgh - Young Academy of Scotland

The RSE is setting up a Young Academy and is now inviting applications from outstanding young academics and professionals who wish to join this new elite group.  The RSE Young Academy will be the first such Young Academy in the UK and will be part of a growing movement of Young Academies across Europe

The academy is intended to provide a base where the best and most forward-looking young scientists, scholars and professionals will be able to develop a distinctive, coherent and influential “voice” to address many of the challenging issues facing their own particular areas of activity and also society more widely.

The membership will consist of individuals having high potential and representing a wide range of academic disciplines, professions and business who have already demonstrated outstanding ability.  Members will normally range from late 20s to early 40s.  Approximately 50 members will be selected in the first cohort.

Selection will be by an open competitive process based on individual applications. These must be submitted no later than 1 July 2011. Applications will be welcome from academia, business and the professions. Applicants will be required to submit the names of two referees. The referees should be people of standing who are familiar with the applicant’s areas of activity and achievements.
